Interview with Sophie Skinner (Head Pastry Chef)

To celebrate International Women’s Day and the outstanding contribution which women make to the restaurant industry, George is looking to our own kitchen to highlight the talents of Sophie Skinner, Head Pastry Chef and adrenaline junkie.

Q. How long have you been working at George?

S. I’ve been working at George for over 5 years, I love the freedom I have to create bespoke dishes for the Members.

Q. Where did you start your career?

S. I started my career in Stratford upon Avon, Shakespeare’s home town. To me desserts are the poetry of  food.

Q. What inspired you to become a Chef?

S. I grew with a Grandmother and Mother that were avid bakers and created traditional British desserts with lashings of fruits and custards.

Q. What is your favourite cuisine?

S. I would say my favourite cuisine would be classic French, give me huge amounts of smelly cheeses and wines any day.

Q. What would I order on the George menu?

S. I feel you can never go wrong with a generously sized steak with a side of pommes frites and of course a smelly cheese board paired with a powerful red or two!

Q. Fun fact about me.

S. I am currently plucking up the courage to do a bungee jump off of the London Eye but most of the time you can find me in the pastry kitchen singing along to Adele… apparently I’m not too bad either.

Introducing Lady Georgina, mixed with Hendrick's, our gin of choice, notes of elderflower and topped with Champagne. 100% of the profits from this cocktail will go to Women for Women International, a not-for-profit humanitarian charity group assisting women affected by war and conflict.
